The chairman of BCB’s cricket operations, Jalal Yunus, disclosed that Shakib will miss the Test series, which is a component of the third cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced on Thursday, February 22, that Shakib Al Hasan has chosen not to play in the forthcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. This is a fresh development. Shakib’s exclusion from the white-ball series against Sri Lanka prompted the decision.
The chairman of BCB’s cricket operations, Jalal Yunus, disclosed that Shakib will miss the Test series, which is a component of the third cycle of the ICC World Test Championship. Shakib appears to be struggling even though he had a comeback in the Bangladesh Premier League, scoring 249 runs in 11 games.
“Shakib requested a vacation from the whole Sri Lankan series because he was unwilling to play international cricket. Yunus told Cricbuzz, “I think his eyes are fine right now, but I feel like he wants a break so he can come back to international cricket fully fit.”
The Sylhet International Cricket Stadium will host the first Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Sri Lanka on March 4. The series will consist of Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.
There are rumors that Shakib would play for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the forthcoming Dhaka Premier League, which begins on March 9, in order to improve his batting abilities before going back to the international scene.
Mahmudullah possesses the strength that T20 requires: Furthermore
In related news, Mahmudullah’s T20I comeback has garnered the confidence of former Bangladesh head coach Dav Whatmore. Mahmudullah, who hasn’t played a Twenty20 international since 2022, has been called up for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka because of his World Cup and current Bangladesh Premier League exploits.
Whatmore recently told Cricbuzz, “I think he (Mahmudullah) has got the power which, is what needed in this format (T20).” He’ll probably tell you that he wants to bat as high as he can if you ask him. He might be deployed in a few different methods because he can undoubtedly clear the boundary and quicken the run tempo. He could come in later in the innings and quicken his pace to clear the boundaries, or he could bat high and score well,” he remarked.
Whatmore says that Mahmudullah’s improved technique, particularly in keeping his head motionless when batting, is the reason behind his current success. The involvement of the seasoned campaigner is viewed as a combination of strength and experience,
“I believe it’s a good idea to try to keep your head still if you want to hit the ball in any format. Whatmore stated, “It’s hard for me to judge what he was doing earlier, but he played a pretty good innings for us in this 10th edition of the BPL.”
“He’s experienced enough to handle the finishing role. Although T20 is an extremely athletic and competitive game, experience does have a role. Forms influence everything, but I assume so (he got a couple of years in a shorter format),” he continued.
