In his last four matches, Kumara has claimed nine wickets in List A cricket.
Lahiru Kumara, a speedster, is back in Sri Lanka’s ODI squad for their next match against Bangladesh, indicating their intention to rebuild the team following a disappointing World Cup campaign. The addition of batting all-rounder Kamindu Mendis to the mix shows how keen Sri Lanka is to change up their team. Nevertheless, veteran player Dushmantha Chameera is out by injury, and batsman Shevon Daniel is left out following few opportunities. In his last four matches, Kumara has claimed nine wickets in List A cricket.
Kamindu’s excellent T20I performance earned him a position in the ODI team. Alongside him are all-rounder Sahan Arachchige, who has excelled in domestic matches with both bat and ball, and opener Pathum Nissanka, who has fully recovered from a hamstring injury. Dhananjaya de Silva is captain of the Test team, however he isn’t playing in the ODI system. Notably, Kamindu took Shevon Daniel’s place in the selection mix after Daniel was a member of the previous two ODI selections.
Though they have an experienced campaigner in Kumara, Sri Lanka has a variety of seam bowling alternatives. Despite Thushara’s outstanding performance in the third Twenty20 International against Bangladesh, they are lacking in the services of slingers Matheesha Pathirana and Nuwan Thushara. The seam bowling positions are filled by all-rounders Chamika Karunaratne and Janith Liyanage, along with Pramod Madushan and Dilshan Madushanka. Dasun Shanaka is conspicuously missing from the lineup.
Prior to important series, Sri Lanka’s spin department appears to be in order.
In the forthcoming One-Day Internationals, Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga are anticipated to spearhead Sri Lanka’s bowling attack in the spin department. Dunith Wellalage, a left-arm spinning all-rounder, and Akila Dananjaya compete for berths in the XI as well. This year, Sri Lanka won both of their ODI series, winning at home against Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. On Wednesday, March 13, the first of three ODIs in Chattogram will kick off their first away series of 2024.
