Bangladesh, having been assigned to bat first, scored a respectable 286/7 in the 50 overs given, with Towhid Hridoy top-scoring with 96* (102). In response, Pathum Nissanka (114 off 113) and Charith Asalanka (91 off 93) shone at the bat as Sri Lanka reached the goal in 47.1 overs.
After losing their opener Avishka Fernando (0 off 1) on the second delivery of the innings, Sri Lanka’s pursuit got off to a terrible start. Sadeera Samarawickrama (1 off 4) and Kusal Mendis (16 off 13) also left their team cheaply, finishing on 43/3. But with a huge 185-run partnership off 183 balls, Pathum Nissanka (114 off 113) and Charith Asalanka (91 off 93) saved their team from certain defeat.
In the course of eight deliveries, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taskin Ahmed respectively, dismissed the pair. Dunith Wellalage (15* off 26) and Wanindu Hasaranga (25 off 16) carried Sri Lanka over the finish line after being dismissed.
