“Hathu is among the best coaches I have ever seen, in my opinion. I feel like he was always a coach and is a coach all the time, whether it is through preparation or honesty, his attention and drive to work,” Mahmud remarked.
Head coach Chandika Hathurusingha was praised by former Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud, who referred to him as one of the greatest coaches he had ever seen. The former captain of Bangladesh went on to say that Hathurusingha is a sincere, committed, and hardworking coach who will improve communication within the team. Although Mahmud thinks the 55-year-old was formerly hot-headed, he has clearly changed for the better.
However, Mahmud also called attention to certain of Hathurusingha’s shortcomings and declared his intention to impose a “bit of dictatorship” during the most recent ODI World Cup in India. Notably, Bangladesh finished ninth on the points table, demonstrating a lackluster performance in the main event. Mahmud continued, saying that although Hathurusingha is an excellent coach already, he needs to improve his man-management abilities.
“Hathu is among the best coaches I have ever seen, in my opinion. His preparation, his honesty, his commitment to his profession, and his focus make me believe that he has always been a coach and always will be. However, I did think he was a little hot-headed when I saw him earlier in the term. Following this World Cup,
“I believe that as head coach, you will have to provide cover for everyone. As you grow into a large umbrella, you have to accommodate everyone inside of it. It’s a problem if you don’t follow through. He should, in my opinion, continue to manage his guy more effectively. That may not be accurate, yet that is how I feel. He is an excellent coach for us, he continued.
The defeat by the Netherlands was too much for us to overcome: Mahmud
Mahmud said of the team’s dismal showing in the ODI World Cup that they were unable to bounce back from their humiliating loss to the Netherlands. He said that Bangladesh ought to have done better with their current roster, but the players weren’t up to the challenge.
“Despite the fact that we won two games, I am not happy. I didn’t think we were playing the kind of cricket we ought to have been playing at the World Cup. The Netherlands loss was too much for us to overcome,” Mahmud continued.
