Injuries have sidelined both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh ahead of Monday’s third and final ODI in Chattogram.
Injuries have sidelined both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka ahead of Monday, March 18’s third and final ODI in Chattogram. Fast bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib of the hosts has been ruled out of the championship game due to a right hamstring injury he suffered on Sunday during practice at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
The 21-year-old cricket player had to depart the field in his ninth over of play during the first ODI last week due to a hamstring strain. Even though he came back to finish the inning, the injury has now gotten bad enough that he will miss the series finale.
Bangladesh has not yet announced a Sakib substitute; Mustafizur Rahman will probably be joining Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam in the speed attack.
Sakib got off to a fantastic start in the series, grabbing three wickets in the first ODI to put Sri Lanka’s innings under pressure after they had made a solid start.
The date of the third ODI is March 18.
In the meantime, the visitors are worried about their own injuries following the earlier withdrawal of fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka due to a hamstring issue. Madushanka will be sidelined for the duration of the tour and the beginning of the IPL season.
The losses for both teams heighten the atmosphere in what is already a highly anticipated series finale. Sri Lanka emerged victorious in the last T20I series, winning 2-1 after winning the final match by a commanding 28 runs.
The third and final ODI looks to be an exciting match, with the series deadlocked and both teams dealing with injuries. Litton Das, Bangladesh’s out-of-form opener, has been replaced by wicketkeeper Jaker Ali. However, a lot will rely on either team’s bowlers can step up in the absence of two of the series’ star players, with Sakib out and Madushanka already out for Sri Lanka.
