In order to strengthen the nation’s domestic cricket system, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a major advancement. Ajit Agarkar, VVS Laxman, and Rahul Dravid—three of Indian cricket’s most well-known figures—formed a committee of three during the board’s most recent Apex Council meeting.
This panel’s principal aim is to offer comments and recommendations aimed at improving the standard and level of competition in domestic cricket competitions throughout India. These cricketing legends are perfect for the job because of their extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of the game.
Dravid is presently the head coach of the Indian men’s squad, Laxman is the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), and Agarkar is the top selector.
Better domestic cricket is the BCCI’s goal.
Frequently occurring disruptions due to bad weather, especially in the country’s northern regions during the Ranji Trophy season, were one of the main issues that motivated the creation of this committee. The smooth running of the esteemed competition was hampered by the cancellation or severe curtailment of several matches.
“There were a lot of issues that cropped up during the conduct of men’s domestic cricket, with a prominent problem being that a lot of games in north India, particularly during the Ranji Trophy, were washed out or heavily curtailed due to bad weather in December-January,” a source close to the BCCI was quoted as saying by TOI
The source continued, “Agarkar, Laxman, and David have been asked to provide their recommendations to improve men’s domestic cricket.”
Along with this move, the BCCI has established a two-member committee to decide whether to extend Associate Membership to the Union Territories of Daman and Diu, thus broadening the country’s cricket environment. The committee’s members are joint secretary Devajit Saikia and treasurer Ashish Shelar.
