Beginning on March 30, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will play their second Test match at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is expected to return for the upcoming second Test against Sri Lanka, which gives Bangladesh a significant boost. The board revealed the team on Tuesday, March 26. The game is slated to begin on March 30 at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. The two-match Test series is noteworthy since it is a part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle for 2023–2025.
The 37-year-old is making his first appearance in international cricket since the October–November 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which was hosted in India. Due to a left index finger injury, he was forced to withdraw from the ICC global event prior to his team’s final match against the eventual champions, Australia. He was given a retinal condition earlier in January, but the medical staff in Bangladesh was “optimistic about managing the condition effectively with a conservative approach.”
Star batter Towhid Hridoy, who was originally part of the 15-man team for the first Test match, has been dropped out of the lineup for the second game due to Shakib’s participation in the squad. Furthermore, the left-handed batter’s last Test match was in April 2023 in Mirpur, when Bangladesh and Ireland faced off.
In addition, Mushfik Hasan, the pacer, hurt his left ankle and missed the first Test. Hasan Mahmud, a fellow right-arm pacer who is attempting to make his debut in the game’s longest format, has taken his place. Mahmud will contribute his experience from his 39 ODI and T20I matches played for Bangladesh. For those who are unaware, Sri Lanka has taken a 1-0 lead after defeating the Sylhet by 328 runs in the first Test.
