Following the conclusion of Day 1 of the first Test, Sri Lanka amassed 314 runs in all.
With impressive style, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka began their ongoing series’ second Test. Starting on March 30, both teams were the center of attention at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Following their victory in the opening Test of the series, Sri Lanka entered the match. The visitors secured a commanding victory in Sylhet by defeating Bangladesh. Sri Lanka won the first Test by 328 runs after amassing totals of 280 and 418 runs in the two innings and restricting the hosts to scores of 188 and 182 runs.
While Bangladesh sought to improve and deliver a better performance in the second Test, Sri Lanka would have hoped for a repeat of the first match and the series to be sealed with victory in the current match.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka elected to bat first in the match. Nishan Madushka and Dimuth Karunaratne opened the innings with scores of 57 and 86 runs, respectively. Kusal Mendis scored 93 runs in 150 deliveries, applying more pressure. Angelo Mathews also contributed 23 runs to the score.
Day 1 of the match concluded with Sri Lanka posting a total of 314 runs on the board despite losing four wickets in an outstanding batting display.
With two wickets under his belt, Hasan Mahmud led Bangladesh in wicket-taking. Additionally, Shakib Al Hasan scored one. With scores of 34* and 15* runs, respectively, Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal and captain Dhananjaya de Silva were leading the way as the day came to a close.
