On the first day of the second and final Test match against Bangladesh on Saturday, Sri Lanka’s top-order batting assault shot the visitors to 314-4 and put them in a commanding position.
In Chittagong, openers Dimuth Karunaratne (86) and Nishan Madushka (57) contributed to the innings’ strength, with Kusal Mendis topping the score with 93.
“We are happy, of course,” Karunaratne remarked.
That’s a respectable first-day score. We are in a strong position if we can put up a strong total the following day,” he continued.
At stumps, Dinesh Chandimal was batting on 34 with captain Dhananjaya de Silva on 15.
After being called to bowl, Bangladesh found it difficult to create an impact, while Sri Lanka batted through the first session without losing a single wicket.Shortly after lunch, Madushka was out while trying a double, but a 114-run stand between Karunaratne and Mendis propelled the tourists ahead.
Before the tea break, Karunaratne sliced a delivery into the stumps, sending debutant Hasan Mahmud back. In his 129-ball innings, Karunaratne hit eight fours and a six. He also took Hasan for a single and avoided being run out on 18 due to a mix-up with Madushka.
