Michael Slater has been placed under police remand after being charged with 19 counts of assault and stalking. On Monday, April 15, the case of the former Australian Test cricket player was heard in Maroochydore Magistrates Court. The accusations are related to alleged offenses that occurred on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland between December 5, 2023, and April 12, 2024.
Allegations of domestic violence include common assault, assault resulting in physical harm, strangling or suffocation, unlawful stalking or intimidation, and breaking into a residence with intent at night. The 54-year-old is also accused with ten counts of violating a domestic violence order and of violating bail.
According to ESPNCricinfo, police have verified that a 54-year-old male from Noosa Heads was taken into custody last Friday at a Sunshine Coast home. After several years of documented domestic abuse episodes, the arrest was made. The matter is expected to be mentioned in the same court on Tuesday, and the former cricket player has been placed under arrest.
Debuting during the 1993 Ashes tour, Slater played 74 Test matches for Australia, amassing 5312 runs at an average of 42.83, including 14 tons. He also participated in 42 ODIs for Australia. After retiring from cricket in 2004, he decided to pursue a career as a TV commentator.

Michael Slater was taken into custody in October 2021 on allegations of stalking, domestic abuse, and using a carrier service to intimidate his former spouse. He was taken into custody by NSW Police in December 2021 on suspicion of violating an apprehended violence order (AVO), and he was later freed on police bail. He was the focus of an investigation into allegations of domestic abuse in April 2022 after related charges were dropped due to his mental health. He was arrested again in May 2022 on allegations of assault and stalking/intimidation. In July 2022, he was brought to the Manly Police Station where he was accused of violating his release conditions before being granted free again.
August 2022: After an alleged attack on a man near Frenchs Forest on Sydney’s northern beaches, Slater was charged with common assault and attempted stalking or intimidation with purpose to create fear of physical or mental harm. He was then detained once more in September on suspicion of violating his bail.
Meanwhile, in November 2022, Manly Local Court found him guilty of common assault, stalking or intimidation, harassment via a carriage service, and domestic abuse. Following a confrontation in Noosa Heads in March 2023, the 54-year-old was also taken into custody on charges of assaulting a police officer and two counts of obstructing police. After that, he was found guilty of the police altercation in November 2023 and was arrested and charged 19 times in April 2024.
