Archer has been sidelined for the majority of the last two years with elbow and back ailments.
Jofra Archer, who was once thought to be the next big thing, has mainly been out of the spotlight for the past two years. The bowler is now hoping to compete in the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, Ashes, World Test Championship, and several series and franchise-based tournaments that he missed in the previous couple of years. The 29-year-old did, however, make it plain that he could think about retiring from the game early if the injuries continue.
Archer has struggled with elbow and back problems in recent years. He returned to action in January 2023, but by May, he had re-injured himself, and Jofra hasn’t participated in any competitive matches since. The cricketer has not yet received a health certificate, but he is expected to rejoin the England team for the forthcoming T20 World Cup.
The star pacer discussed his injuries and said that he hasn’t played a full season in a long time. Despite missing the T20 World Cup, he hopes to compete in the upcoming County, T20 Blast, The Hundred, and other events. But Archer made it plain that he won’t be returning to the field right away.
“It hasn’t been a whole year since I played cricket. I performed from January to May of last year. You know I spent a whole year without playing for Sussex; I guess I played maybe one or two games the year before that. There are moments when it seems like that. Since it’s been a while, I’m not sure if I have it in me to have another year of ups and downs. That’s the truth; I’m not sure if I have any more,” Eurosport cited Archer as saying.
In the worst-case scenario, which I really don’t want to consider, there is always the T20 Blast and the Hundred even if I am unable to travel to the World Cup. I still haven’t had the opportunity to play cricket in the previous several years. Therefore, even though I would really like to play in the World Cup, I still know that I could be involved in some way, he continued.
By May 1, 2024, each of the 20 participating teams will have to reveal their regional T20 World Cup team. In light of this, Archer has fewer than two weeks to demonstrate his suitability and obtain a ticket to the major tournament.
