On Wednesday, Akram traveled to Sri Lanka to lead a two-day training session for the national team.
Wasim Akram, the legendary cricketer from Pakistan, will coach Sri Lankan bowlers in preparation for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024. On Wednesday, Akram traveled to Sri Lanka to lead a two-day training session for the national team. Starting on Thursday, the program will also feature training for Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) High-Performance Coaches (HPC) and coaches from important clubs.
This program was started by Sri Lanka Cricket in order to provide the requisite experience to strengthen the country’s Major Club structure and the SLC High-Performance Center’s coaching staff. The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, under the direction of Mr. Shammi Silva, the organization’s President, decided to invite Wasim Akram. The first day of the training course is May 2, 2024.
“Akram will cover the SLC pace academy, HPC, and top club coaches in five sessions overall. He would also watch how the national team of Sri Lanka is getting ready for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, according to the SLC, which was cited by News18.
Wasim Akram had previously coached the pacers of Sri Lanka.
Famous Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram had agreed to serve as a trainer for Sri Lanka ahead of their pivotal 2016 tour to South Africa. In Colombo, Akram had led a coaching clinic that lasted a full day. This was the first of several programs that would involve foreign professionals. Akram, who is widely considered as one of the greatest left-arm pacers in history, now holds the record for the most wickets taken by a Pakistani cricket player in one-day internationals (502) and tests (414).
At the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on June 3, Sri Lanka will play their first match in the Twenty20 World Cup—a match against South Africa. On June 2, the opening match of the 20-team competition pits the United States against Canada. England is the reigning T20 World Cup champion, having won the competition in 2022.
