Rajasthan Royals are defeated by Punjab Kings by 5 wickets.
At the Baraspara Stadium in Guwahati, Assam, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) squared off. After winning the toss, RR captain Sanju Samson chose to bat first, and in the 20 overs given, they amassed a score of 144/9. However, PBKS performed admirably, defeating RR by 5 wickets after chasing down 145 runs in 18.5 overs.
The Rajasthan Royals gained from the match between DC and LSG, as they qualified for the IPL 2024 playoffs as the second team after KKR. However, PBKS has already been eliminated from the Indian Premier League for this season.
In place of Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tom Kohler-Cadmore opened the innings. Punjab gave Nathan Ellis a chance and brought Harpreet Brar back into the team. Captain Sam Curran of PBKS batted and bowled for the squad, acting as a captain. He dismissed the dangerous Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over itself.
The second-ranked team in the points table, RR, found it extremely tough to score as Punjab Kings’ bowling attack limited them to 144 runs after nine wickets were lost in 20 overs. However, PBKS too had a difficult start as they lost significant wickets at an early stage. Sam Curran prevented his team from suffering a further setback. With a strike rate of 153.66 against the Royals, he was still undefeated after scoring 63 runs off 41 balls.
Sam Curran, the captain of PBKS, gave his team some hope during his final game of the season after they lost important wickets of Shashank Singh, Jonny Bairstow, Rilee Roussow, and Prabhsimran Singh.
It was hard to score runs against the Rajasthan Royals because of their tight bowling. When Jitesh Sharma and Sam Curran hammered Ravichandran Ashwin for two sixes to bring the score to 100 in the fifteenth over, everything changed.
In his penultimate over, Yuzvendra Chahal removed Jitesh Sharma from the game, ending the dangerous stand. Riyan Parag trapped the 30-year-old after he hit 22 runs off of 20 balls.
