Delhi Capitals had a respectable season in the IPL 2024 despite not making it to the playoffs.
Delhi Capitals (DC), who had the minimum cut-off point of 14, did not advance to the IPL 2024 playoffs because of their inferior net run rate to that of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Their dreams of making the playoffs were definitely shattered by a 47-run loss to RCB in the pivotal league game.
Nevertheless, the Capitals managed to have a respectable season thanks to their captain Rishabh Pant leading from the front. Jake Fraser-McGurk, the opener, was fantastic with his powerful hits. Axar Patel, Mukesh Kumar, and Kuldeep Yadav were all outstanding, and Abishek Porel was a remarkable batsman.
However, several of the Delhi team’s players were not given enough chances to show off their abilities. The team combination forced them to be unnoticed, which may have had some effect on their campaign.
The Delhi Caps’ three most underutilized players in the 2024 Indian Premier League are as follows:
- Dubey Praveen
This season, Praveen Dubey hasn’t participated in any games. With precision on both line and length, the 30-year-old right-arm spinner can cause problems for the hitters. Due to Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav’s presence, DC was unable to afford a seat for Dubey. It is notable, though, that DC attempted Lalit Yadav’s off-spin rather than Dubey’s offensive leg-spin, even though wrist-spinner Kuldeep was missing from a few games.
- Richardson Jhye
Jhye Richardson, an Australian fast bowler, was limited to one game in the 17th edition. Richardson was included in the playing XI for the 20th game against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in lieu of the injured Mitchell Marsh. DC need to have been more patient with the right-arm pacer, even if he let up 40 runs in his four overs without claiming any wickets.
- Prithvi Shaw
In the IPL 2024, DC experimented with different opening lineups, beginning with Mitchell Marsh and David Warner. After the removal of the two Australians, experiments were later conducted on Jake Fraser-McGurk, Prithvi Shaw, and Abishek Poral. Shaw was unable to secure his place whereas Fraser-McGurk succeeded, but without significant damage.
In the IPL 2024, the right-hander appeared in just eight of the fourteen games. He hit 198 runs, including a half-century, at an excellent strike rate of 163.63. Shaw is a potent opener, but this season, DC hasn’t been able to fully utilize his abilities.
