In an exciting match played in the final over, India defeated Pakistan by six runs in Sunday, June 9, 2024’s T20 World Cup match in New York.
The’mother of all rivalries’ took center stage during the epic cricket match between Team India (IND) and Pakistan (PAK) in Match 19 of the T20 World Cup 2024 in New York. Notably, captain Babar Azam asked the Men in Blue to bat first after winning the toss. The Green Shirts made a great selection as they were able to get openers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma at a relatively low cost.
To keep Team India afloat, though, teenage stumper-batter Rishabh Pant took charge and played a calculated innings. However, Naseem Shah and Mohammad Amir’s outstanding bowling performances caused India’s batting order to collapse like a house of cards. India received a below-average score of 119/10 as a result.
In response, Mohammad Rizwan and Pakistani captain Babar Azam got off to a cautious start, but Jasprit Bumrah eventually made the breakthrough for India. Rizwan, though, persisted in ticking off points on the scoreboard in an effort to win the game. Pakistan, however, destroyed their run-a-ball chase equation due to some tight spells from Mohammed Siraj and later performances by Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja. Later on, Bumrah demonstrated his ability to win matches once more when he contributed two wickets in the 19th over to help India regain the lead. In order to ensure that India won the low-scoring thriller, Arshdeep Singh was able to maintain his momentum and effectively defend the 18 needed off the final over.
Based on the current rankings, Team India has won both of their games and moved up with four points. Their Net Run Rate (NRR) has increased to +1.455 as a result. The United States of America (USA), with an equal number of points as the Men in Blue, is not far behind. As of right now, their net run rate is +0.626. In addition, Canada moves up to third place after defeating Ireland following a loss to the USA in the first game. Pakistan and Ireland, who have not yet opened their accounts in the points column, are now in fourth and fifth place as a result.
The most important question at this point is where India stands after defeating their bitter rivals, and what Pakistan must do to remain in the running for Super 8 round qualification.
What must Pakistan perform in order to get to the Super 8 round of the T20 World Cup in 2024?
In addition to playing incredibly well in terms of Net Run Rate (NRR), Team Pakistan will now have to rely on other teams. The Green Shirts must first win their remaining group stage matches in order to advance to the Super 8 stage, and they must then pray that Ireland and India fall to the United States.
As a result, the US will be unable to score six points. It’s interesting to note that if Ireland defeats the USA, Pakistan may have a chance to advance to the Super 8 round of the T20 World Cup in 2024 if they win their matches by a large margin and have a higher run rate than either India or the USA. Otherwise, Pakistan is already facing certain elimination, and even if they win every game, they will probably lose the World Cup in the group stage.
Speaking about Team India, they are currently atop the group and just need to win one more game to maintain their position. Thus, even if they defeat the United States on June 12th, they will still need to play Canada. However, defeating the American team will almost guarantee their spot in the Super 8 rounds.
