Bangladesh prevailed by 25 runs over the Netherlands thanks to Shakib’s 64* runs off 46 balls.
Shakib Al Hasan received harsh criticism from former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag following his lackluster showings in Bangladesh’s opening two Twenty20 World Cup matches. Sehwag feels that the all-rounder should step away from the format in order to give others the opportunity to play and contribute significantly because he wasn’t doing much for the team.
Shakib then responded quickly with the bat, hitting a crucial blow of an undefeated 64 off 46 against the Netherlands to help Bangladesh win by 25 runs and move one game closer to the Super 8 place. In the meantime, Shakib addressed Sehwag’s words following the game, saying he had no response and expressing his goal to improve in the remaining games.
“A player never shows up to respond to other people. According to Shakib, a player’s duties include scoring runs when he bats, helping the team, bowling well because taking wickets occasionally rely on luck, and fielding to preserve runs and make catches when they fall to him.
“Nobody has anything to answer for. Shakib stated, “I don’t think it’s a very bad thing when a current player isn’t able to contribute to the team as much as is expected of him. It usually invites a lot of questions.”
It was crucial that a batsman from the top four batted the entire innings: Shakib
Shakib stated following the Netherlands match that it was critical that one of the top four hitters stay in the crease all the way through. Shakib came out to bat with Bangladesh down to 23/2, and the squad needed a big performance from him. He was glad to help and praised how effectively the bowlers contributed, particularly Mustaflizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain.
“Having a batsman from the top four bat the entire innings was crucial. I’m pleased with the bat contribution I made. At first in the innings, it wasn’t an easy wicket. We maintained composure and performed admirably overall. Although it wasn’t a winning total, it was a difficult total. Bowlers made a superb contribution, particularly Fizz and Rishad, according to Shakib.
