Against USA, Quinton de Kock scores 28 runs in a single over.
The opening match of the T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eight stage will be between South Africa (SA) and the United States of America (USA), the co-hosts. Both teams play at Antigua’s historic Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, on Wednesday, June 19.
SA made it to the Super Eight round of the competition after winning four of its eight tour matches and taking top place in Group D. But the United States, who were drawn into Group A of the competition alongside countries like Pakistan and India, finished second.
It was challenging for the USA as Quinton de Kock hammered his half-century in just 26 balls. Jasdeep Singh was dismissed for 28 runs by de Kock in his opening over alone. For the USA squad, this turned out to be the most expensive over. He put tremendous pressure on the United States and gave South Africa a head start. South Africa eventually achieved 100 in ten overs in Antigua.
USA captain Aaron Jones decided to bowl against the South African team after winning the toss. “First, we’re going to have a bowl. We want the seamers to take advantage of this fantastic wicket initially. Kenjige in, extra spinner for us today.”
Captain of SA Aiden Markram commented, “It doesn’t seem too horrible. As for the toss, we really had no idea what to do. We probably should have bowled, but we’re okay with batting first. For us, an extra spinner today. Ottneil Baartman, regrettably, is left out due to circumstances; Keshav steps in.”
The captain, Aiden Markram, contributed significantly as well, hitting four boundaries and a six in his 46 off 32 balls. By scoring 110 runs for the second wicket together, Markram and De Kock enabled their team to reach 51-1 at halftime.
