“But yeah, it is good when you are challenged at times,” Rathour replied.
Vikram Rathour, the batting coach for Team India, has come forth to say that he is not satisfied with the way star player Virat Kohli is performing in the current T20 World Cup. Although Team India has yet to lose in the World Cup, concerns have been raised over Kohli’s performance in the main tournament.
The great batter has scored 29 runs at an average of 7.25 runs in the four T20 World Cup games that he has appeared in thus far. In their first Super Eight match, the Men in Blue defeated Afghanistan handily, but Kohli was unimpressive again, scoring 24 runs in the same number of deliveries.
Rathour discussed Kohli’s struggles with the bat before India’s second Super Eight matchup against Bangladesh, but he also said that it is healthy for the elite batsman to be tested occasionally.
“I’m not content. If he picks up steam and scores more runs, it would be fantastic. However, occasionally being questioned is a good thing. The players who don’t always receive a lot of batting opportunities in India are the ones that scored big today, and our middle order performed admirably. Thus, that was encouraging to observe,” Sportskeeda cited Rathour as saying.
As a team, we’ve always had depth: Rathour
Additionally, Rathour discussed how one of India’s greatest current strengths is the squad’s adaptability. In the group stage, the Men in Blue used two spinners and three pacers; in the Super Eight match, they used three spinners.
“I think our team has always had depth. However, given that we can occasionally afford to play two or three spinners, these circumstances may be more favorable to us. In my opinion, that can be our strongest team. Our power lies in that, stated Rathour.
Someone like Axar Patel, who can bat and bowl pretty effectively right now, seems to give you a lot of confidence when he plays at eight.
