According to Panesar, who was cited by TOI, “India will win the T20 World Cup final, and Virat Kohli will score 100.”
When Virat Kohli was starting for India in the 2024 T20 World Cup, he appeared out of character. The star hitter gave up his assigned third spot and hasn’t been able to adjust to the new job well. He has scored 73 runs in eight games and has just once been able to bat outside of the powerplay. Former England spinner Monty Panesar has predicted that the right-handed batter will get a century in the Barbados grand final ahead of the match against South Africa.
The former captain of India is no stranger to the opening position; he has been the league’s top run scorer when opening for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League. The white-ball maverick appears to have been asked to perform better by the slow and unforgiving wickets in the Caribbean and the USA, and captain Rohit Sharma has also shown confidence in the player’s abilities. Along with Kohli, Rohit also had a dry spell at the bat in the beginning before finding his swing as the knockouts approached.
As reported by The Times of India, Panesar predicted that India would win the T20 World Cup final and that Virat Kohli would make a century.
There’s never an issue with form: Rohit Sharma
“Kohli is an excellent player. That may happen to any athlete. We recognize his class and his significance in all of these major games. Form never poses an issue. Form is never an issue when you’ve played cricket for fifteen years. He appears to be saving for the championship, and his intention is evident. Definitely (supporting Kohli in the championship match),” Rohit declared following the semifinal win.
India must swallow a hard pill since, unlike in the past, the team does not appear to be overly dependent on Kohli. When the squad lost early wickets, batsmen like Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav came up. In addition, India easily advanced through the group rounds thanks to the efforts of Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel, who contributed with both bat and ball. After a ten-year break, India is targeting ICC silverware again, and their form with Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube is a cause for concern.
