When Babar Azam tweeted something, online users noticed an error that was immediately seen by everyone. This prompted the batter to edit the message.
On July 12, James Anderson played his final match as an international at Lord’s against the West Indies. Former and current cricket players from all around the world sent the England stalwart well wishes in the shape of messages. Following suit, Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, tweeted something, and internet users noticed an error that everyone saw, prompting the batter to fix the message.
Rather than addressing the swing of the pacer, Babar said that Anderson was fortunate to be facing his cutters and wished him luck. After the error became widely known, he responded by reposting the revised version. For those who don’t know, the seasoned English pacer is renowned for his swing and pace, having played more games in England than anybody else. He was so deadly that many called him a “cloud puller,” which is another term for someone who takes advantage of cloud cover.
Glad I’ve been fortunate enough to avoid injuries: Anderson
Anderson was the third-highest Test wicket-getter when his cricket career came to an end. The 41-year-old pacer holds the record for most Test wickets taken by a bowler with 704 wickets taken in 188 matches played. Ironically, the right-arm pacer spent more than 20 years in sports, having made his debut at Lord’s in 2003 and calling it quits there in 2024.
“Obviously this morning was quite emotional with the two teams lined up and the reaction from the crowd was pretty special,” Anderson said. “But yeah, I’m still trying to hold them [tears] back now, but I think I’m just really proud of playing for 20-odd years. [It] is an incredible effort, especially for a fast bowler. I’m just happy that I’ve made it this far. Happy that I’ve been lucky enough to stay injury-free pretty much throughout my career. And yeah, play for England. It’s the best job in the world, so I’ve been privileged to be able to do it for a long time,” said Anderson as quoted by NDTV Sports.
